I was very surprised to read the system requirements for the next version of SharePoint. The critical takeaways include:
* Only 64-bit operating systems are supported and SharePoint 2010 itself is only 64-bit
* SQL Express is no longer supported, you must have 2008/2005 (64-bit)
And the kicker announcment:
Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog : Announcing SharePoint Server 2010 Preliminary System Requirements: "Due to this focus Internet Explorer 6 will not be a supported browser for SharePoint Server 2010."
That's not to say that IE6 is dead. Support is still available until 2014. Only now it's not compatible with one of their flagship products. IE6 still makes web development tough, but that must have been a difficult decision to make. Kudos to Microsoft for making a tough call to help out the developer community!
